Down to the Sea in Ships, February 16, 2015

Doesn’t this phrase conjure up thoughts of discovery, adventure, danger and challenge? For longer than recorded history humans have built things that float and left the land behind to seek new resources, escape danger, fight wars or learn about the world. In more modern times, commerce and the profit motive kicked in and today it is also done for pure sport and pleasure. In this course we will explore what compels us to take great risks, what the consequence of these endeavors have been and how the technology of ocean travel has changed.
