President invites members to AGM and winter courses, Nov. 2013

November 3, 2013                               388 Augusta Crescent, Grand Bend, N0M1T0

Dear Members of Partners in Learning,

It has been a great start to another year of interesting presentations and stimulating discussion. The first two fall courses were well received and thanks are due to all who participated and the moderators, Bob Kennedy and Don Santor.  The current courses are also very popular, The Roaring Twenties, moderated by Lynn Wilbur and Socrates Café under the guidance of Nancy Winters.  The curriculum committee headed by Beckey Jackson has worked hard to come up with more interesting topics for the sessions beginning in the New Year. While some members are fortunate enough to winter in warmer climes, many of us choose to stay put knowing that PIL will provide us with companionship as well as mental exercise.

From Monday, January 6 to February 3 the courses will be:
Canadian Heroes and Villains, from 10 a.m. to noon, moderated by Suzanne Davidson
and
What’s so Funny?, from 2 to 4 p.m., moderated by Nancy Winters

Beginning on Monday, February 10 to March 17 the courses will be:
Ghosts, Goblins and Apparitions, from 10 a.m. to noon, moderated by Molly Russell
and
Humanity in Crises, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., moderated by Don Santor

I hope that you will consider enrolling in one of the courses and bring a friend along. There is no charge to sit in on a session, it is after all, the only way to know if PIL is for you.

As I come to the end of my term as your president it is my pleasure to remind you that the Annual General Meeting and election/appointment of a new executive takes place at Southcott Pines Clubhouse Social Room on Monday, Dec. 2 at 12 noon.  All current members plus one guest are invited. It is also the occasion of the Christmas potluck lunch. Who can resist the delicious offerings of our members, accompanied (I hope) with some carol singing led by the musically talented Roberta Walker?  In addition we will be making presentations to two very special peoplePlease put this date in your planner now!

We are still in need of a Treasurer/Registrar and someone to take on publicity, if either of these roles interests you, please let me know. If you want to nominate a person for any executive position it must be done in writing with the permission of the nominee and sent to me at the address above at least two weeks prior to Dec. 2. Positions are: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer/Registrar, Curriculum Chairman and Publicity Chairman.

Finally, thank you all for your support this year. PIL is a remarkable organization only because of the people who are involved and who give of their time and talents.

Regards,

Dinah Taylor – President, 2012-13
