Summer Socrates Café, 2021
Socrates Café is a friendly gathering for informal discussion about the latest and most engaging news of the day. We choose a topic, by vote, and take turns offering our – often very differing – views. In summer, a BBQ lunch is added for a congenial get together. Expect a good time!

Winter / Spring Zoom Discussions
Even though we are not able to meet in person, PIL wants to provide you with some food for thought over the next few months. The following topics will be presented via Zoom on the dates indicated. This program is free and everyone is welcome. If you are a member of Partners you will receive a link to the meeting prior to the event. If are are not a member, please contact our Technical Coordinator, Mike Ash, by email at indabush@hay.net to get on the distribution list for the link.
All sessions are 1 1/2 hours max. and start at 1:30 PM on the second Monday of the month.

This course is running in a similar way to Realizing Reconciliation last season. It is designed to appeal to members as well as to the general public. Climate change is worse than many of us expected. Our survival is threatened and we have to respond quickly and wisely for our grandchildren’s sake. How do we decide which issues should be priorities when so many seem urgent? Which activist groups should we support? How do we organize as a community to be effective? This series brings together speakers from government, the Indigenous community, activist groups, and others to share their views on a feasible path forward. If you want to worry less and find positive solutions, please join us.

What historical event has captured your imagination? The significance of an event cannot be measured scientifically. Every historian, journalist or student could make
their own lists. This course is meant to draw attention to a number of events in history that left an indelible mark on peoples lives and an indisputable memory in the
minds of later generations. Pick something that interests you, and would interest the group and tell us about it. It can be an event over years or a point in time – a big
event or something small but significant. Any time period is fair game.

On the fourth Tuesday of the month, we gather for informal discussion and debate about the latest and most engaging news of the time. We choose, by vote, a pair of topics and each member offers an opinion on the first. The battle is joined. The sessions usually run from September through March and perhaps April depending in the timing of Easter. Special Socrates / Social events usually occur in July and August at local residences.

Diverging from the pressure of the lecture hall, members took time to uncover topics especially meaningful to them, and worked in groups to find lively formats to engage members. Of special interest is the use of questions and interactive participation to stimulate discussion. Join us for a refreshing experience!

| Feb 10: Home Alone Week five of Forum is available for a second Discovery Talk. Of interest to a great many of our members is how to manage “home alone”. Persons who have lost spouses, divorced, or who are otherwise facing aging alone will find this an illuminating subject, full of good advice and helpful coping strategies. |
